Cooper Historic Building: Grinnell, IA
Built at the turn of the 19th century, three adjourned buildings recently underwent exterior masonry cleaning at the same time. The buildings have non-load bearing stone masonry facades with storefront windows.

ISSUE: Within months of cleaning, spalling was noted, and limestone began to fall from the facade. Investigated the accelerated deterioration potentially caused by the pressure used and the timing of the cleaning.
